Celebrating the harvest and Sukkot 2018

We have been finding out how harvest is celebrated around the world and the different traditions and customs that take place in different countries.

We have learned about how Christians celebrate the harvest by giving thanks to God for the food we have. We also thought about people who live near us who do not have enough food. We held a collection of food to be donated to the Wansbeck Food Bank and everyone gave very generously!

We also found out about the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot. We read the story of how Moses led his people through the wilderness and how god cared for and provided for them during this time. We then build our own Sukkahs too.  A sukkah is a temporary hut constructed for use during the week-long Jewish festival of Sukkot. It is topped with branches and often  decorated with autumnal or harvest themes. We were very proud of our finished sukkahs.
